Mississippi Ranked #2 in the Nation for Bad Drivers
Bad drivers are everywhere and thanks to a new study we now know that many of them live in Mississippi. According to a recent SmartAsset study, there are more bad drivers in Mississippi than nearly every other state. Mississippi ranked second in the nation for terrible drivers, behind only Florida. With around 32,000 people killed in vehicle-related incidents in 2014 and an estimated 35,000 vehicular deaths in 2015, the dangers of impaired or distracted drivers in Mississippi have never been more real.
The study looked at the number of vehicle-related fatalities, number of DUI arrests, percentage of drivers who are insured, and how often people in the state Google “traffic tickets.” While this does not mean that every driver in the state is terrible, it does mean that compared to other places, Mississippi drivers are more likely to encounter issues on the roadway.
Dangerous Mississippi Drivers
Mississippi is rated fifth-highest in the number of deaths resulting from auto accidents and twelfth highest in DUI arrest rates per driver. This study focused heavily on the number of vehicle-related fatalities and DUI arrests. These two statistics give incredible insight into the safety of the roadways. However, these were not the only factors considered.
While Florida, the state deemed to have the worst drivers in the nation, dismissed these claims as being due to tourists and the elderly, it is also worth noting that Florida has one of the highest auto insurance costs in the country. According to the study, nearly 23% of Mississippi drivers are uninsured. If you are involved in an accident that is the fault of a driver who does not have auto insurance, you may be left with huge expenses. It is possible that your own insurance will be able to cover medical costs, damages and other expenses. But if your insurance is not enough, what do you do then? An attorney experienced in auto accidents can help you explore your legal options for seeking compensation.
