Biloxi Police Add New Tool to Catch Drunk Drivers
Biloxi police and law enforcement along the Coast spent much of their New Year’s weekend trying to keep people safe. They beefed up patrols and even brought in new equipment. The Mobile Intoxilator 8000 was on the streets working to prevent one of the busiest times of the year from becoming the deadliest.
Increased Patrols & Tech
The holiday weekend often means more traffic and more partying. This if a recipe for auto accidents. The new mobile unit allows officers to perform sobriety tests in the field, not just at the station. The device allows officers to administer breath tests and have results within a minute. This can save officers and citizens both time and money in the long run. Mississippi is an implied consent state. This means that drivers can be faced with a fine or license suspension if they refuse to submit to a chemical test after being lawfully arrested by an officer with probable cause. Officers hope this new technology paired with increased traffic stops and sobriety checkpoints will decrease the number of accidents.
